Today 2Pak Softball Club announced the exciting new project they have started in conjunction with ALSAA.
Work started on 19th April with the first cutting of the sod, and continues in order to convert an area of the ALSAA Sports Grounds to a full size softball field with dirt infield, similar to that used in Baseball and Softball in other countries. Other initial features of the facility will be permanent bases, a backstop and equipment shed.

BatPak's Julie Trundle, who is also Chairperson of the Softball Leinster regional organisation, said "After months of planning behind the scenes, it is an absolute dream to finally see the work started on the diamond. We can't wait to start using it and hope that as many teams as possible enjoy the experience. Everyone involved has played softball for many years, and this will build a legacy for those who participate in the sport in the future."S
ALSAA has long hosted softball games and tournaments, indeed the Flyers Softball Club which recently disbanded played its home games on the field that is now being converted. Maebh Leahy, Chief Executive of ALSAA said "We are delighted to see softball progress so much in Leinster and are thrilled to be involved with these two great clubs. Julie and Steve are a huge asset to the sport – their drive and energy has really helped turned this vision into reality. We're looking forward to seeing softball continue to grow over the coming years"..
Teams from the Leinster League Premier Division and Division One will encounter the new field when they play their away games against the 2Pak teams during the 2012 season, and the facility will be available for use by other teams and organisations for weekend tournaments, the national cup competition and end of season annual playoffs.
The work on the field will be completed by 27th May. To celebrate this exciting development, 2Pak Softball is also announcing its inaugural 2Pak Softball Blitz, a daylong tournament hosting the country's top teams at 2Pak Park. Taking place on Sunday 27th May, the day will offer a combination of competitive softball and family fun for everyone.
